We are the Champions!

They came, they played, they conquered!

After four long years, Whizzcats Junior Football Club finally tasted victory when our Under 12 lads came up tops in the T-Net Sports Fiesta 08 Street Soccer Tournament.

The final match resulted in a draw. In the ensuing penalty shootout, our goalkeeper Naim became the hero when he saved one penalty and scored the winning goal.

We are very proud of the lads and it was a sweet victory for Whizzcats Junior as the achievement was delivered by our pioneer players - Zulhairie, Addam, Zulhilmi, Irfan Dinie and Naim

Apart from the players, we would like to congratulate the coaches as well - Zakaria, Anuar, Mustafi and Yusoff - for their dedication and belief in the boys and the club.

WJFC's management hopes that this victory will inspire the younger players and pave the way for more success.

The last tournament signals the end of the training with the coming of December holidays. This will give everyone - from players, coaches, trainers and parents - their deserved break.

SINGAPORE MALAY FC/SPORTING WESTLAKE FC JUNIOR SOCCER 5s CARNIVAL 2008

Our Under 8 and Under 12 teams participated in the SINGAPORE MALAY FC/SPORTING WESTLAKE FC JUNIOR SOCCER 5s CARNIVAL 2008. The carnival took place at Kembangan. Despite the rain and water-logged pitches, 54 teams (under various categories) battled it out to become champions. Teams from Whizzcats did pretty - coming in fourth for both the Under 8 and Under 12.

For our boys it was one for the memory. Their achievements were commendable as they played against some of the best soccer clubs in Singapore, especially for our under 12 boys as it was to be their last tournament playing together as a team.

Kudos to Coaches Mustafi and Zakaria for a job well done and our deepest thanks to all the other coaches and trainers for their contributions throughout the year 2008.

Club History

Founded in March 2004, Whizzcats Junior Football Club (WJFC) is managed totally by volunteers. The Club had its first introductory training session on 7 March 2004 at an open field near Blk 655, Woodlands Ring Road before approaching Evergreen Primary School with a proposal to conduct Sunday soccer programme.

Our club colours are Orange, Black and White.

Our Logo

It depicts the profile of a generic representation of the cat family with a soccer ball entrenched in its mouth signifying firm control and composure. The cat was chosen because of its agility, acute vision and hearing. All cats are digitigrade — they walk on their toes with the back part of the foot raised and that is the stance all good soccer players adapt.

The W of the acronym WJFC is specially designed to represent bared fangs signifying aggressiveness and tenacity.

The six patterns on the ball represent the club’s 6-point Code of Conduct with the main – RESPECT – taking centre-stage.

Our Objectives

1. To encourage participation in and enjoyment of soccer to young players.
2. To develop the skills and fitness of all participating players and officials.

5. And lastly using soccer as a platform, teaching life’s experiences that await children. Teamwork, improvement of individual skills, interaction with other people in a structured environment, listening, successes and failures are all lessons that need to be experienced at a young age.

Whizzcats Junior Football Club (WJFC) players had lots of fun in a 2-day football camp organized by Woodlands Wellington Football Club at the Woodlands Stadium on the 22nd and 23rd of July 2007.

Head coach Jorg Stienebrunner and Assistant coach Sivarajan handled the training for both days with the help of nine S-League players on each day. The junior players were taught the basics in dribbling, passing, shooting, heading and ball control, while the junior goalkeepers had the expert help in the form of ex-national custodian Yazid Yasin and Fadhil Salim. The main aim of the sessions is to teach to the junior players the beautiful game while having fun at the same time. Discipline is emphasized together with team work. Tactical and technical aspects were also thought to the kids to help make them better players in the future.

“It’s a joy watching these kids training and having fun. It’s also a change of environment for the players as we get to share our knowledge with these youngsters,” said Woodlands captain Ahmad Latiff.

Volunteer coaches and parents from WJFC were very grateful to Woodlands Wellington FC and the management committee for giving the junior players the opportunity to train and play with the S-League coaches and players. The kids were thrilled to have met players like Ahmad Latiff, Akihiro Nakamura, Sazali Salleh, Lucian Dronca and the rest of the team whom they usually see on TV. Meeting them was a dream come true for many of them. The enthusiasm and the dedication shown by the Woodlands players and coaching staff were really appreciated.

“The fun that we had with the kids over the last 2 days is something that we will cherish and we appreciate the effort put in by Evergreen Primary School as more that 70 kids came for the camp,” said Woodlands vice-captain Akihiro Nakamura.

Woodlands coach Jorg Steinebrunner had this to say, “The kids were very eager to learn and the players and coaches had a lot of fun doing the clinic. But at the end of the day, it was all about the kids. All we want is to teach them something and for them to have fun.”
